Test whether a decision can survive handoff without oral rescue by making a person outside the originating room reconstruct the judgment from the page alone.
Use when
A decision is leaving the originating room, owner, team, agency, or leadership group.
What it prevents
Oral history from carrying the decision across handoff while the document preserves only the conclusion.
Run it
- Give the Field Read to someone outside the originating room. Do not brief them.
- Ask them to restate the decision, inherited model, material exclusion, person under conditions, chosen and rejected directions, owner, downside, ethical boundary, falsifier/kill rule, and next action.
- Mark every element they cannot recover from the page.
Redline example
The first agency translation preserved the Dayline name and audience but reduced the peak-week proof condition to a generic service metric and restored celebrity amplification as an execution option. The stranger could state the concept and miss the decision. The handoff failed.
Your live decision
Give the page away before the next team begins work. Record what they cannot reconstruct without you.
Route next
Use FN24 / Continuity Gap Checklist if the handoff is about to occur. Use FN25 / Continuity Gap Postmortem if the decision has already drifted during implementation.
Stop rule
Do not coach the stranger through the missing logic. Stop only when the page can carry the necessary judgment without oral rescue.
Core Field Read update
Record the handoff gaps, repair owner, repair date, and whether execution remains blocked until repair.
