Several options are polished, correct, or operationally plausible and the decision is collapsing into a committee preference with no attributable judgment.
What it prevents
Generic work surviving because every option is equally competent, safe, and anonymous.
Run it
- Put the strongest options side by side.
- Ask where a real choice appears: what is amplified, protected, sacrificed, disappointed, or refused?
- Ask which option a competent stranger could produce from the brief alone.
- Name the tension removed to make the work safe.
- Restore one fingerprint and complete the Tension Card.
Redline example
“Broader cultural membership” and “modern relevance” can survive almost any committee. Proof-before-performance cannot. It disappoints celebrity partners, changes budget ownership, and forces operations to carry the meaning. That is where the author becomes visible.
